Heirloom tomato plants started from seeds ordered in January, planted in early March and raised in our basement under heat lamps
After the seedlings get bigger, they are transplanted into individual containers and set out on our covered front porch a few hours per day to harden.
Sugar snap peas planted and starting to reach the trellis for climbing. Kale plants growing in front of the trellis
These taste best as spring and fall (cool) crops. We use them on burgers instead of lettuce, and as sandwich wrappers in the place of bread!
We grow 4 types of leaf lettuce plus celery. Celery grows very well here and is great in salads and Bloody Marys!
The broccoli plants are forming nice heads, ready to pick in early June.
You think you know what celery tastes like, until you've grown it and picked it fresh! Wow! Crunch into a stalk and a flavor explosion happens! The stalks and leaves make wonderful additions to salads, stuffing, soups and more. Celery is a bit hard to grow and when starting from seed, allow 3-4 months. We start ours from plants and they take 2 months. Plant in April and by mid June, you'll have delicious celery! It takes a lot of watering as this plant must have a moist bed. Give it a try!
